As a Utah ski family, we’ve learned the ins and outs of all of the best ski resorts in Utah, so we’re sharing firsthand what makes each Utah resort great for kids.

Of course, easy access to resorts, affordable nearby lodging, and lots of kids ski free options make skiing in Utah with kids even more appealing.

We’ve been skiing with our kids here since they could barely walk, and our oldest is now 15 and an expert skier, so we’ve seen everything you can imagine in those years.

Solitude Skiing with Kids

Solitude is the perfect place to unwind, relax, and escape from the stress of daily life. The resort offers a calm and peaceful atmosphere for families to reconnect with each other and nature.

Solitude is one of Utah’s hidden gems when it comes to skiing. The resort has an incredibly family friendly ski vibe, while still having outstanding terrain for all levels. With the longest beginner run in Utah and some of the best backcountry skiing, Solitude is a great place to take your family.

The Link and Moonbeam lifts are ideal for beginner skiers as they mostly give access to the beginner ski trails on Etna. Plus, both of these vehicles depart right from the Moonbeam lodge—so you can always duck inside for a hot cocoa break in between runs!

If your kids are intermediate skiers, the Eagle and Apex lifts are where they’ll have the most fun. I’m able to ski on the beginner terrain with our youngest while my older kids spend time skiing on their own. They can easily check in with me when they need to since the lifts are in close proximity to each other.

If you’re an advanced intermediate skier, Summit lift will be right up your alley. The snowfall is a bit heavier here than at the other lifts, and it stays fresh for much longer. If you’ve got a kid who just wants to go all out skiing (and on difficult terrain), Honeycomb Canyon is their perfect playground–steep slopes and deep powder abound. Solitudes Honeycomb Canyon truly lives up to the Utah ski reputation.

The best part is that kids 6 and under ski for free, making Solitude a great budget-friendly option. And it’s one of the few resorts in Utah has a base village so everything you need – restaurants, lodging, evening activities, etc. – are all within walking distance.

Snowbird Ski Resort for Kids

Since Snowbird has steeper slopes and more difficult terrain, it is known as a relatively advanced family-skiing resort. In fact, Camp Snowbird offers all-day kid skiing lessons right within the on-resort hotel for your convenience.

If you or your beginner   skier is just starting out, the Chickadee lift would be the best place to start since it’s near the lodge. Wilber, Mid Gad and Baby Thunder are all great skiing spots for beginner to intermediate levels, so even though Snowbirds’ claim to fame is its difficult terrain, there’s plenty of space and options available for every type of skier.

Even if the previous reasons haven’t convinced you that Snowbird is right for your family, consider this: kids between the ages of 2 and 12 can stay free when accompanied by a paying adult.

Atla and Snowboard are considered sister resorts since they neighbor each other. Visitors can explore the different feel of each resort in just a few minutes by purchasing an AltaBird lift ticket which allows access to both resorts in the same day. .

If your child is a beginner, we recommend starting with the Little Cat lift; however, Becker is a good choice for those who have mastered basic skiing skills.
